I’m a huge car enthusiast, and on this post, I will introduce to you my 1986 Toyota Corolla Levin, also known as AE86. It’s the only car I own at the moment, so I use this car for almost anything. Track day to daily…!
Exterior
The exterior is kept rather stock at the moment. I have the aero kit from “Good Line” for the front bumper, stock side skirts, and stock rear bumper. I think the rear spoiler is also stock from the factory. Yes, the hood is carbon for saving weight, and RAYS TE37V’s for all 4 wheels. The tire size is 195/50/R15, which I think is a decent size for AE86s. Some people prefer 14 inches, but I will stick to this size for now. (anyway, the cost for tire is very cheap as the tire size is tiny compared to modern high performance cars).
Interior
Next is the interior! I love the interior of my car at the moment, its one of my “saving points” when feeling depressed, or need a refreshment. I often take my 86 for a brief weekend drive through the mountains and think about a lot of things. After the quick drive, my mind is somehow clearer.
The interior in my 86 is track oriented, and has all the necessities to go full send during track days. As the title of this column says “Track focused but street doable”, my car also has mandatory functions to using it daily.
Performance
- AE92 stock engine (OH treatment in 2015)
- HKS stage1 supercharger kit
- Apexi muffler
- TRD short shift
- TRD short damper and springs
- Power should be around 160 – 170 PS
- AC is adapted, no power steering instead.
My 86 has HKS supercharger which is rare nowadays, people often go for NAs. I’m loving this package, a lot of torque for street use, and by keeping the engine stock, the reliability is definitely high for such an old car.
Future plans
I definitely have to do some body restore on the car. Rust is quite brutal for almost every AE86. (as these are cars from 1980’s…)
I’m saving money to give my buddy some good treatment !
